Bushmaster Survival Challenge: Bushcraft and outdoor cooking team challenge
Bushmaster Survival Challenge combines navigation, shelter building, fire lighting and a judged outdoor cooking task. Teams work together using practical bushcraft skills, with instructors assessing their shelters, fires and cooking challenge.
How does the Bushmaster Survival Challenge work?
In this event, bushcraft meets an outdoor cooking contest. First, teams learn basic navigation and map skills. They then use these skills to find hidden food supplies for the challenge.
Next, groups build shelters from forest materials and prepare a meal over a campfire. Meanwhile, they create a forest-themed restaurant setting for their presentation. Finally, our survival instructors score each team’s fire, shelter and cooking task.

- Fire lighting: using a flint striker and collecting wood for the cooking challenge
- Navigation – Navigating using maps to find and retrieve hidden food caches
- Shelter building: using materials from the forest to build a group shelter
- Wild cooking: preparing a multi-course meal for our survival experts to score in a cooking contest
